Dear Parents,

The “Readers are Leaders” initiative at HFS aims to cultivate a strong reading culture among students of Elementary Section by instilling a lifelong love for books and learning. Reading is the foundation of all learning—it enhances language skills, builds imagination, strengthens comprehension, and develops confident communicators who are prepared to lead and succeed.

The program will be implemented through graded readers that match students’ reading levels and engaging library activities such as storytelling sessions, book talks, and reading challenges/competitions. To encourage active participation, students will earn badges, stars, and certificates as tangible rewards for their consistent reading efforts and milestones achieved. Progress will be recorded through reading charts/logs which would help the students to stay connected and track their own progress.

This reading progress will be evaluated and reflected in term marks, giving it academic value and motivating students to take reading seriously. Parents will play a vital role by ensuring daily/weekly home reading practice and reinforcing the habit beyond the classroom.

The success of this program lies in a collaborative triangle between the students, school, and parents—each contributing to nurture confident, expressive, and thoughtful readers. With regular monitoring, motivation, and meaningful engagement, the “Readers are Leaders” plan aims to transform reading from a task into an enjoyable journey of discovery, ultimately shaping our learners into articulate, imaginative, and responsible individuals ready to lead through knowledge.
